Robots help deliver gifts
The Innovation Project is a project-based engineering design course. Bachelor’s degree students studying mechanical engineering go through a production development process in their third semester. They work through all the steps independently starting with the initial idea through to the construction of a fully functioning product. This year the project is a Christmassy one. 550 students in 95 teams have been given the same kit with which to build autonomous robots that have to be able to cover a set route. They have four minutes to deliver five gifts down each of eight chimneys. The robots have to carry out these tasks without any external help – in other words, working entirely on their own. You can find out in the video all about the innovation project’s learning objectives, the amount of work involved and what motivates the students.
